Discipline Profile
"Foodborne Chronic Diseases is a secondary discipline independently established under the primary discipline of Food Science and Engineering. The main research content of this discipline combines food science and engineering and chronic disease research, focusing on three distinctive and advantageous research directions, namely food nutrition and metabolic diseases, food nutrition and tumourigenesis, and food nutrition and degenerative neurological diseases, to strengthen high-level basic research, focus on technological innovation and scientific and technological achievements, and to enhance the integration of basic theories and chronic disease research in the field of food science and engineering. In order to enhance the in-depth integration of basic theories and chronic disease research in the field of food science and engineering.
Training Objectives
1. To enhance student comprehension, analysis and problem-solving skills; to inculcate in them a sense of responsibility and purpose to explore unknown, seek truth and scale summits of science; and to foster in them a sense of nationalism and a mission to serve their country with science and technology.
2. The aim is to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental theories, as well as a deep knowledge of the subject matter and practical skills. It is also important to stay up-to-date with the latest developments and frontiers of the discipline. The ability to independently undertake research projects that are at the forefront of the discipline or have innovative value, using the theories and experimental techniques of the discipline and related fields, is essential. Additionally, one should possess the ability to teach and conduct research independently within the discipline, as well as contribute to the development of the economy. Finally, it is important to have the ability to continuously improve oneself and innovate.
3. The doctoral dissertation should have significant academic value and social significance, and must produce innovative results in a specific research direction within the discipline.
4. They will be able to read specialist literature, consult sources, write abstracts and participate in international academic exchange, and will have a command of at least one foreign language.

Length of Study
The duration of a doctoral programme is four years, with a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years of study.
Credit Requirements
1. The doctoral programme consists of public courses, degree courses, elective courses and compulsory sessions. There are 7 credits of public courses, 4 credits of degree courses and 2 credits of compulsory courses.
2. Reading report: under the guidance of the supervisor, doctoral students shall read a certain amount of literature, information and materials related to their speciality and research direction, and make academic reports for the department (institute) for 4 times (including the opening report), which shall be counted as 2 credits. The grades will be scored collectively by the tutor's supervisory group.
3. The opening report and mid-term examination shall be compulsory for doctoral students, and the results shall be scored collectively by the supervisor's supervisory group.
4. Doctoral students admitted with the same academic ability shall make up for three master's degree courses (without credits), and doctoral students admitted in interdisciplinary disciplines shall be required to make up for the courses and credits as determined by the supervisor.
